Short film and documentary maker Subir Mondal is all set to direct his first feature film, titled Shortcut. The film will be based on a short story of the same name, written by renowned composer, songwriter and vocalist Nachiketa Chakraborty.

The film will feature Parambrata Chatterjee, Gaurav Chakraborty, Anindita Basu, Chandan Sen and Bangladeshi actors Apu Biswas and Orin.

Shortcut is a story of two young men in the current socio-economic system. “One of them comes from a rich family, while the other lives in the slums. However, both of them suffer from failures in their respective lives. Despite the differences in their economic background, their failures connect them. The story shows whether they eventually come out of their situations,” Mondal said in an interview with Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika.

The film also explores how taking shortcuts can lead to both success and failure. However, the author of the story highlighted a different aspect of the plot. “We generally don’t see the whole of Kolkata from the outside. There are layers in it which have not been really shown in Bengali films. My story will hopefully bring the pictures forth,” author Nachiketa Chakraborty, who will also compose the film's music, informed the daily.

Chakraborty also believes that his story has a lot of cinematic elements to materialise on screen. “Subir is a wonderful human being and that is why I am trusting him with the story,” he added.

Apart from Shortcut, the producers, Trina Films, have already finalised six more films with Mondal.
