While the posters of Satyameva Jayate were creative, the same cannot be said about its trailer. In fact, the trailer suggests this is a film meant purely for the masses.
Screenwriter Milap Zaveri is known for writing dialogues for films such as Masti (2004), Grand Masti (2013), Ek Villain (2014), Mastizaade (2016) and Hate Story IV (2018). In the action genre, he has written some campy dialogues for Shootout At Wadala (2013).
Going by the trailer of Satyameva Jayate, the film seems to be very much in the mould of Shootout At Wadala, laced with over-the-top dialogues and action sequences. Zaveri is directing the film himself.
In the film, actor John Abraham plays a man who is a cop by day and a vigilante by night. He preys on corrupt police officers and gives them a brutal death.
Manoj Bajpayee plays the righteous cop, who is entrusted with the task of bringing the serial cop-killer to justice. There seems to be nothing else to the story unless Zaveri has some surprises in store for us.
I am an actor because of Manoj Bajpayee: Rajkummar Rao
The trailer also reveals the reason for John’s obsession with corrupt officers. His father, an honest, courageous and award-winning police officer, had killed himself, presumably because he was cheated by some of his corrupt colleagues.
There is no novelty to the plot of Satyameva Jayate. If you are a fan of campy dialogues, then you just might enjoy the film.
Bajpayee has given many a fine performance in his over two-decade-long career, but most of the films have failed to reap commercial success. Aligarh (2016) and Budhia Singh: Born To Run (2016) are examples. He was seen in Ahmed Khan's action drama Baaghi 2 (2018). The film did not get rave reviews but turned out to be the biggest commercial success of Bajpayee’s career, collecting over Rs160 crore nett at the India box office.
Clearly, the actor par excellance has realized the need to take up commercially viable films.
The worry, though, for Satyameva Jayate is that it has no Tiger Shroff. John’s recent action dramas such as Rocky Handsome (2016) and Force 2 (2016) proved to be duds at the box office.
July-December preview: Films to look out for in second half of 2018
Actress Neha Sharma's sister Aisha makes her film debut with Satyameva Jayate. She has the looks, but one wonders if she will have a meaty role. While it is too early to comment, the newcomer does not have any convincing dialogues in the trailer.
John has lifted bikes and pulled cars with his bare hands before. Now, the actor defies logic and rips a giant tyre in two just by flexing his muscles. It’s too good to be true, but then there is always an audience when it comes to action films.

Satyameva Jayate promises to be another action drama. While the film may earn big bucks at the box office, it might not win any bravery awards.
The film is set to be released on 15 August, alongwith Akshay Kumar’s Gold and Sunny Deol’s Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se.
