Adil Hussain, Paoli Dam to explore a Partition story in Maati

In Maati, Dam essays the character of Meghla who goes back to her ancestral home in Dhaka, Bangladesh, years after her grandmother’s death.

Actors Adil Hussain and Paoli Dam will be playing the lead roles in Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee’s upcoming film, Maati. The actors were recently seen together in Pratim D Gupta’s Ahare Mon (2018).

In Maati, Dam essays the character of Meghla who goes back to her ancestral home in Dhaka, Bangladesh, years after her grandmother’s death. The film explores the consequences of 1947 Partition that ravaged the two lands across the border in different layers. There Meghla comes across Jamil who brings forth the stark reality in contrast to Meghla’s illusions surrounding her homeland.

The film also stars Monami Ghosh, Chandan Sen, Laboni Sarkar and Aparajita Adhya in important roles.

“I have been planning to make the film for the last twenty years. Finally we have managed to complete the project. I come from Bangladesh as well. I have my ancestral place in Manikganj. Now a Muslim family resides there and they are still keeping alive the tradition of performing Durga Puja every year. I have tried to show that in the film. My great grandfather’s death was not normal. I have placed that story in my film as well,” stated Gangopadhyay in an interview with Bartaman Binodan.

The music of the film has been scored by Debajyoti Mishra. Maati will hit the screens on 13 July.
