Fanney Khan teaser: Anil Kapoor could blow your mind away with his trumpet

Director Atul Manjrekar carves out a neat teaser that is neither exceptional, nor underwhelming.

Director Atul Manjrekar, producers Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra and T-Series are gearing up for their collaboration, Fanney Khan. The makers today released the first teaser of the musical drama, featuring Anil Kapoor in the lead role.

The film is the official remake of the Belgian film, Everybody's Famous! (2000). While a young woman played the lead role in the original, Manjrekar chooses a senior actor as his protagonist. In both the films the protagonists are musicians.

The term Fanney Khan has different connotations. As the teaser says, it could be used to describe a fine artiste or even a dimwit. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajkummar Rao’s characters make an appearance, giving the impression that Rai Bachchan is the fine artiste, while Rajkummar is the dimwit. The actress is rumoured to be playing a reality show judge.

The less-than-a-minute-long teaser is all about Anil Kapoor, who plays the titular Fanney Khan. Kapoor plays the trumpet well, and seems to have struggled to make a name for himself. Kapoor's abode, with highrises in the background speak of his humble roots. The teaser is a brief introduction to the character of Fanney Khan. The teaser is neither exceptional, nor underwhelming. Perhaps the trailer will reveal more about the character and his quirks.

Fanney Khan will be released on 3 August.
