The Hindi remake of Sairat (2016) carries a huge responsibility of living up to the success of the much-appreciated Marathi film. The chemistry of Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor in Dhadak (2018) is likely to make all the difference for the Hindi version.
In a promotional video ahead of the film's release in July, the makers bring together Kapoor, Khatter and director Shashank Khaitan to indulge in some light hearted banter about their filming experience.
Kapoor and Khatter are seen in a playful mood, talking about the not-so-appealing traits of each other.
“I don't want to compliment him too much. He’s like a kid. He’s lot of fun, has great energy which is contagious,” Kapoor says in the video.
Between-the-shots footage reveals that Khatter did playfully annoy Kapoor.
“He shattered my brain cells, with his unreal singing,” she says. This is in reference to the scene in the trailer where Khatter's character sings the song 'Tu Jaane Na' from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009) by translating it to English.
On his part, Khatter was left irritated by Kapoor’s constant habit of pointing fingers at him.
"I had a feeling she is good. After we shot the film, I don’t think so,” said Khatter playfully.
Director Khaitan jokes saying he felt like he was running a creche with parents dropping their kids — referring to Khatter and Kapoor — to the sets to be entertained and to learn something while they're at it.
The lead pair taught their director to dance and use lingo like 'whack', 'sick' and 'savage'. Dhadak will be out in theatres on 20 July
