Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj was planning to start work on his untitled film with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. Unfortunately, Khan's life-threatening illness forced that project on the back burner.
So Bhardwaj moved on to his next, Pataakha, for which the filmmaker is eyeing 28 September as the release date. Pataakha stars Dangal (2016) actress Sanya Malhotra, Radhika Madan and Sunil Grover.
Bhardwaj is currently completing shooting for the film. He said, "The first half is complete, we have just 12 days of shooting left and leave for Mount Abu on 29 June for the final schedule.”
The filmmaker has chosen the last Friday of September for the release as some of his earlier films, Haider (2014) and Talvar (2015), directed by Meghna Gulzar, were released on 2 October, which falls on a Tuesday this year.
Pataakha is based on an acclaimed short story by Charan Singh Pathik which revolves around two sisters who share a close bond. They are separated by marriage but find it hard to live their lives separately.
The filmmakers released the first official poster of the film today. Full of colour and life, the poster reflects the bond between Malhotra and Madan’s characters.
On 28 September, Pataakha will be competing with Yash Raj Films’ Sui Dhaaga.
