Director Mangesh Joshi's Lathe Joshi, that has been garnering acclaim at film festivals over the world, will be out in theatres on 13 July. The recently released trailer of Lathe Joshi gives a good glimpse into the world of Joshi (Chittaranjan Giri), and his family.
Lathe Joshi is about a man’s struggle to accept changing technology and its consequences. Joshi works in a workshop and operates on a lathe machine. It’s a tedious job, but he enjoys it. However, one fine day he and his co-workers are sacked as the owner decides to replace them with new-age machines.
Joshi is unable to share the shattering news of his sudden unemployment at home. In no time, everything around him seems to be changing at lightning speed. A hand mixer replaced with a food processor, his wife's new hairstyle, his mother's latest brush with devotion via technology — are seemlessly shown as changes effected by technological advancements. However, Joshi's attachment to the lathe machine does not diminish. His son, played by Om Bhutkar, differs from his father and is ready for big technological shifts in their daily life.

Giri's performance is stoic, and compelling. It would be a delight to see him carry a whole film on his shoulders while his emotions are purposefully restrained.
The soothing background score adds a sombre tone to the story.
The film also stars Ashwini Giri (Chittaranjan’s wife) and Seva Chauhan.
