Anupam Kher's avatar as India’s former prime minister, Manmohan Singh, for biopic, titled The Accidental Prime Minister, has been in the talks since last year. The actor’s efforts at resembling Singh has taken everyone by surprise.
Now, Kher has introduced a couple of other characters from the film — Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The roles are enacted by Divya Seth Shah and first-time actor Ram Avatar Bhardawaj, respectively.
Like Kher, the two artistes perfectly look their characters. Bhardawaj deserves mention for the way he has matched the body language and expressions of Vajpayee.
The Accidental Prime Minister is based on the book of the same name by author Sanjaya Baru. He was Singh’s media advisor and chief spokesperson from 2004 to 2008. In the controversial book, Singh has alleged that the former prime minister had no powers in his office and the Cabinet since everything was controlled by Congress's former president Sonia Gandhi.
Actor Akshaye Khanna will essay the role of the author in the film.
The Accidental Prime Minister is directed by Vijay Gutte, while acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta has written it.
