Itly, directed by Vidyadharan, has created quite a bit of interest among Tamil film buffs for several reasons, the most important being that it features veteran actresses in lead roles. This is probably the first time that a Tamil film has been made with only senior actresses as its lead cast.
The comedy thriller, featuring veteran actresses Saranya Ponvannan, Kovai Sarala and late actress Kalpana, will be released on 29 June.
Sources close to the film unit say that the film is about three grandmothers planning a bank heist.
"Itly is a neat, clean wholesome entertainer, the shooting of which was completed in 40 days across Chennai. All the songs were filmed in Kerala. The whole story has been narrated in a thrilling and funny manner. The three lead characters have a unique quality inherent to them. Saranya Ponvannan’s character has unconditional love for her granddaughter, Kalpana suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and Kovai Sarala is a spinster who keeps imagining comedian Manobala as a lover in her dreams," a source told us.
The source added, "Although the film is full of funny and thrilling incidents, it will basically deal with a social issue. Itli is a film that one can watch with the entire family."
The film has music by Dharan and cinematography by Kannan. Jai Praveen is the editor of the film, while Uma Shankar is the art director.
Itly is produced by Babu Thooyavan and G Karthik under the banner, Appu Movies.
