Kapoor further said that he too believes he cannot be a 'second Sanjay Dutt'.

A few weeks ago, while promoting Race 3, Salman Khan was asked about his views on Sanju. The actor-producer had said he was surprised that Sanjay Dutt was not playing himself in the biopic. The film features actor Ranbir Kapoor as Dutt.

Khan’s comments were perceived as a criticism against Kapoor. After all, the duo have not seen each other eye-to-eye, especially since Kapoor dated Khan's former-girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

Kapoor has now reacted to Khan’s comments. “It has never happened that a person played himself in his own biopic. This destroys the effect of a character. I knew that I will be compared to Sanjay Dutt and that is why I have tried my best to do justice to his role,” he said in a recent media interaction.

It must be recalled that Khan was only referring to Dutt playing himself in the last 7-8 years of his life in the film.

Kapoor further said that he too believes he cannot be a 'second Sanjay Dutt'. "Whether people see me as 40-year-old Sanjay Dutt's avatar or 20-year-old, they should feel that they are watching an artist who is playing Sanjay Dutt. It is correct that I cannot become a second Sanjay Dutt," the actor added.

Sanju is set to be released on 29 June.
