Salman Khan-starrer Race 3 has taken the box office by storm. The film, directed by Remo D’Souza, has crossed the Rs100-crore mark in its first three days. As per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com, the film has earned approximately Rs100.94 crore.
Also starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah and Saqib Saleem, Race 3 became the highest opener of 2018 on Friday as it made Rs27.69 crore. It overtook the Tiger Shroff-starrer Baaghi 2, which had collected Rs25 crore on its opening day.
Race 3 review: This vehicle runs out of gas long before the finish line
The film saw a big jump on the next day, which was the festival of Eid, as it amassed Rs36.25 crore. It continued its good run the following day (Sunday) with a collection of Rs37 crore. The first weekend collections of Race 3 are a bit lower than Khan’s last release, Tiger Zinda Hai, which made Rs114.91 crore in the period.
"I believe the estimated budget should be around Rs80-90 crore, maximum Rs100 crore for Salman Khan has taken no fees as it is his production," exhibitor Akshaye Rathi had told Cinestaan.com before the film was released. It has been released in more than 4,200 screens.
The interesting thing to note is the negative criticism Race 3 has received from critics and audiences alike. The unprecedented earnings are surprising in light of the Race 3 bashing since it was released on 15 June. It probably shows the box office power of Khan.
However, Race 3 still has a long way to go before it can be considered a success at the box office. Its performance on the weekdays will determine its final status.
