A new teaser of the Akshay Kumar-starrer Gold has been attached with the prints of Salman Khan’s commercial caper Race 3, which was released today. And it's a teaser in every sense of the term.

The teaser begins by asking viewers to rise for the national anthem. The scene is of a hockey match and Akshay Kumar’s character is present as the Indian team manager.

But here comes the twist. Instead of the Tricolour, the Union Jack appears on the screen and 'God Save The King' rings out instead of the expected 'Jana Gana Mana'.

The makers of Gold said in a statement that the idea was to "make today's generation feel what the pre-Independence Indians felt by making them stand for ... the British national anthem".

The teaser is a smart one, what with the recent controversy over compulsorily playing the national anthem in cinema halls, an order that has since been rescinded, leaving the decision of whether to play the anthem to individual theatre owners. But if a theatre does play the anthem, it is compulsory for everyone in the auditorium to rise. And that is where the teaser scores.

Gold, written and directed by Reema Kagti, is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. The film also stars Kunal Kapoor and Amit Sadh and marks the big-screen debut of popular television actress Mouni Roy.

Gold is set to be released on Independence Day. Watch the teaser below and tell us what you think of the film's box-office prospects.
