Actor Priyadarshan Jadhav’s directorial debut Maska was released last month and succeeded in tickling the audience’s funny bone. Starring Prarthana Behere, Shashank Shende, Aniket Vishwasrao, Pranay Raorane and Chinmay Mandlekar, the film is an out-and-out entertaining heist drama.
The words ‘to be continued’ before the end credits indicated the possibility of a sequel.
During a conversation with us, Shende confirmed that the preparation for the shoot is underway. “The sequel will definitely be out. I believe Priyadarshan has already started writing it,” he said.
Maska review: This con drama is a laugh riot
He added that the story is still incomplete. “The journey of all our characters is not complete yet. What happens with Pranay Raorane and myself is still not known,” added Shende.
Maska featured Vidyadhar Joshi’s character at the start who gets conned by Behere, Shende and Raorane. But he wasn’t seen again in the film. Shende said that Joshi’s character would return in the sequel. “Vidyadhar Joshi’s story also wasn't completed in the first film,” he said.
When Shende was asked if they had always planned two films before shooting the first one, he said, "Yes, we had."
The last time a Marathi film was planned in two parts was Ravi Jadhav’s Timepass (2014), which starred Prathamesh Parab and Ketaki Mategaonkar. Incidentally, Priyadarshan Jadhav wrote and played the main lead in Timepass 2 (2015).
