Director Prabhu Solomon, who helmed the blockbuster film Kumki (2012), has now clarified that the story of its sequel, Kumki 2, will not be connected to the first film.
In a statement, the director said, "We have just finished the second schedule of the film. We will shortly be starting the third schedule. A lot of films have been made in such a way that the story of their sequels are connected with the first part. However, the story of Kumki 2 will in no way be connected to the story of the first part. The only reason we named it Kumki 2 is because this film too revolves around an elephant."
The director also revealed that the film will introduce a new-comer, Mathiyazhagan. However, the female lead has not been finalised yet. "An elephant called Unnikrishnan plays the important role of Kumki in the film. Other cast members include, Harish Perodi, RJ Balaji, Susan, Kolangal Thiruselvam, Akash and Master Rohan. Music for the film is being scored by Nivas K Prasanna and cinematography is by Sukumar."
The director added that the team had to struggle as they were unable to find the correct elephants for the film. "We couldn't find the right elephants to work with. If we found the right elephants, we couldn't get the permission to shoot. If both were there, the elephants wouldn't co-operate. So, we went searching for elephants in India, Sri Lanka, Burma and Thailand. Finally, we found elephants in Thailand and have now finished two schedules of shoot there."
