Actor Arbaaz Khan has landed in trouble after the Thane police summoned him in a Indian Premier League betting case, as reported by the news channel Times Now. Khan has been asked to record his statement by the anti-extortion cell of Thane crime branch.
Khan's name cropped up after the Thane police recently busted a betting racket that was being run from a building in Dombivali, Thane. The arrest of one bookie Sonu Jalan, led to Khan's name appearing in the case.
According to Times Now, Jalan allegedly threatened Khan, who allegedly placed huge bets on a few games during the Indian Premier League 2018, the premier T20 cricket competition in the country. Jalan was arrested from the premises of the Kalyan court where he had come to meet one of the accused in the case.
Jalan is reportedly said to have links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. He was was earlier arrested in 2008. The news channel also posted a picture of Khan with the bookie.
The cash-rich Indian Premier League is no stranger to betting and fixing controversies and has seen players and teams banned for their involvement in spot fixing.
Hindi cinema personalities have also often found themselves in betting rackets. In 2012, starlet Nupur Mehta was alleged to be used as a honey trap to lure cricketers. In 2013, late actor Dara Singh's son Vindu was arrested for alleged links with bookies. Singh was later released.
