Sports biopics have become a regular genre in Hindi cinema. Although actor Milind Shinde’s directorial debut Re Raya is a Marathi film, its trailer gives a feeling of been-there-done-that.
The film revolves around Bhushan Pradhan’s character, Bhosale. He is an athlete, but always falls short of winning the precious Shiv Chhatrapati Puraskar. Years later, he returns as a coach. He sees a spark in three rural boys with limited means. People around him laugh at his choices, but he believes he can live his dream of achieving success through them.
The story brings back memories of Chak De! India (2007) and Dangal (2016). Both these films were about sportsmen who look for glory as coaches. In Dangal, coach Aamir Khan also happens to be the father of the girls.
From the trailer, the whole logic about the prize seems questionable. Why do we need a committee to declare someone as the best sportsman when the results of a sport like running is declared by who comes first?
The twist about Bhosale’s accident could have been avoided in the trailer. The trailer gives out too much about the plot.
Also starring Sanskruti Balgude, Re Raya is scheduled to be released on 20 July.
