Box office: Sanju becomes Ranbir Kapoor's 1st film to bag Rs200 crore in first week


After a record opening weekend for a Hindi film, Sanju bagged Rs15.50 crore nett on its seventh day.

After a record opening weekend for a Hindi film, Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Sanju (2018) bagged Rs15.50 crore nett on its seventh day to take its India collection so far to Rs200.08 crore nett, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. Sanju became Kapoor's first film to touch the Rs200-crore mark.

The producer figure is pegged Rs202.51 crore nett. The film, which is the biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt, is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. It also features Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma and Dia Mirza.

Baahubali: The Conclusion (Telugu film dubbed in Hindi) holds the record for the highest opening week collections (domestic) at Rs246.47 crore nett. The record for the highest opening week collections (domestic) for a Hindi film belongs to Salman Khan’s Sultan (2016) that made Rs208.99 crore nett, followed by Tiger Zinda Hai (2016) with Rs206.04 crore nett. Sanju comes at number three with Rs200.08 crore.

Sanju is ahead of the likes of Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016) that made Rs192.38 crore nett and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) which pocketed Rs182.52 crore nett.

Before Sanju, Kapoor's biggest success was Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) that had bagged Rs177.99 crore nett. The Dharma Productions' film was released in 2,900 screens, while Sanju has been released in 4,000 screens.

As per trade sources, the estimated budget of Sanju is said to be around Rs100 crore.

With no major releases this Friday, Sanju will hope to collect more moolah in its second weekend.
