Actress Sunny Leone remains one of the most popular stars of the current Hindi film industry. While her stardom might seem alluring, the story behind her rise to it is as challenging as it gets. The latest trailer from the Zee5 series seeks to capture this particular journey in Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone. The story is a part of five stories which include those of actresses Mallika Sherawat and Kalki Koechlin, among others describing events from their life.

The trailer to Sunny's segment begins with an interviewer describing her as the person 'no Indian woman should be'. It is a description that has haunted the actress to the film industry, owing to her past as an adult film artiste. Soon, the trailer segues into her childhood as a young girl in Canada, and her parents struggle with money. Being bullied in school, or choosing to work in the adult industry, Sunny displays a rare courage and confidence in herself that leads her to being featured as the PET for Penthouse magazine at the age of 19.

The trailer does promise enough to make for an interesting segment, and is also cut quite dramatically. Rysa plays the young Sunny, while the actress plays herself in the later ages. A South African actor has been roped in to play her husband Daniel Weber.

The series is set to air on 16 July on the Zee5 platform.
