Veteran Marathi actor Mohan Joshi's latest film Pushpak Vimaan speaks of Tatya, an old man coming to terms with the urban lifestyle.
The trailer of the film hints towards a light-hearted and moving saga of an elderly man who is critical of the modern way of living, but not afraid of trying it himself.
Vaibhav R Chinchalkar's directorial debut has a young grandson (Subodh Bhave) living in Mumbai who invites his grandfather Tatya (Joshi) from the village for a stay. However, the senior citizen finds it difficult to adjust to the ways of the city.
Tatya believes in the mythological claim that airplanes were first invented in India and were called Pushpak Vimaan. He also believes in the story of Saint Tukaram going to heaven on one such Pushpak Vimaan.
Airplanes are a regular sight in the skies of Mumbai. However, Tatya has never seen one before. He soons becomes convinced that the airplane is indeed the Pushpak Vimaan he has been talking about all these years. Now, he wants to sit on one such 'pushpak vimaan'. Can his grandson afford the cost of the tickets?
Interestingly, in the 2015 film Deool Band too Joshi's character Swami Samarth believed in Pushpak Vimaan.
The story of Pushpak Vimaan itself is interesting. The trailer is filled with funny moments born out of Tatya’s uneasiness in the city. The abhanga sung in praise of Saint Tukaram adds to the goodness.
Produced by Zee Studios, Pushpak Vimaan is all set to be released on 3 August.
