Director Deva Katta, who is currently busy remaking his Telugu film Prasthanam (2010) in Hindi, with Sanjay Dutt, Manisha Koirala and Ali Fazal, will next helm a big budget web-series for the online streaming platform, Netflix.

A prequel of Baahubali, titled Shivagami, Katta will co-direct the series with SS Rajamouli.

Sivagami is slated to be a three-season show and the two directors will work on the project together. This will be the first big budget Netflix original to come out of India.

Katta is excited to come onboard to tell more stories based on the popular Baahubali franchise and co-direct with Rajamouli.

"The Baahubali series made a huge impact with its unique way of storytelling. This prequel promises to amp up the excitement of all the Baahubali fans. I am really honoured to be a part of this project and be able to work with Rajamouli sir," Katta said.

Reportedly based on the novel, The Rise of Sivagami, the show will focus on the character's life before she married into the Mahishmati kingdom, and her subsequent rise to power. Since the web-series focuses on Sivagami’s early years, Ramya Krishnan is unlikely to play the role, though a cameo cannot be ruled out.

According to a recent report in Mid-Day, a tabloid, the project will be multi-lingual and the first season is likely to have 10 episodes.
