Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt's Shamshera to be released on 31 July 2020

According to the makers, Shamshera will be a desi, high-octane masala film that will have Kapoor and Dutt pitted against each other.

Yash Raj Films's Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, and directed by Karan Malhotra, will hit the screens on 31 July in 2020.

Kapoor is currently basking in the success of his latest film Sanju. The Sanjay Dutt biopic earned a whopping Rs144.58 crore nett in four days at the domestic box office.

Interestingly, Shamshera will have the two actors pitted against each other as hero and villain.

According to the makers, Shamshera will be a desi, high-octane masala film. "An edge of the seat adventure, it is set in the heartland of India and will have jaw-dropping action sequences and a never seen before Ranbir Kapoor. Sanjay Dutt takes on Ranbir as he plays a ruthless, merciless villain in the film,” read an official statement.

Actress Vaani Kapoor is also a part of the film. Starring opposite Ranbir, she will be seen as a travelling performer.

Malhotra had last directed Brothers (2015), starring Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra. He made his directorial debut with Agneepath (2012), the official remake of the 1990 film of the same name, starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Both films, Brothers and Agneepath, were produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Shamshera will be Malhotra’s first film outside this banner.

The film will go on floors at the end of this year and the shoot will be completed by mid-2019.
