Gold (2018), the story of India’s first gold medal as an independent nation, has been digitally remastered to be showcased on the big screen in the IMAX format. It will be released in IMAX theatres across India and selected international markets from 15 August.

Produced by Excel Entertainment and directed Reema Kagti, Gold stars Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Kumar Singh. The sports film brings alive the stories of the Indian hockey players who brought home the gold to India at the 1948 London Olympics.

Akshay announced the film’s IMAX release on Twitter.

In a statement, Kagti said of the film’s release on IMAX screens, “It's very exciting that Gold will be releasing in the IMAX format. It offers such a majestic experience. The film has been shot at such great scale and in IMAX, the experience will only be further enhanced.”

For viewers, it is a chance to relive history by watching and experiencing a reel hockey team capture the gold in a thrilling match on British soil on Independence day.

India has 15 IMAX screens with another 25 in construction. Mumbai, the hub of the Hindi film industry, has four IMAX screens.
