Uronchondi song 'Ghorer Kethay Fata Suta' rich in philosophy, reminds of Baul songs

Singer Shanta Das’s voice suits Chitra Sen's so well that one might mistake that the song has been sung by the veteran theatre actress herself.

The 'Ghorer Kethay Fata Suta' song from Abhishek Saha’s Uronchondi (2018) churns out the rural flavour that runs throughout the film. The folk number composed and penned by Debajyoti Mishra is rich in philosophy and expresses out the gist of the film.

The song is on the lips of Chitra Sen, who plays one of the protagonists in the film. Singer Shanta Das’s voice suits her so well that one might mistake that the song has been sung by the veteran theatre actress herself.

The song is set on a full moon lit night in a rural landscape. It shows an upset Minu (Rajnandini Paul) sobbing and Chotu (Amartya Ray), who has a soft corner for her, hesitating to try to console her. Sabitri (Sen) on the other hand, cooks a simple meal and sings to her heart's content, echoing the palpable chemistry between Chotu and Minu. Bindi (Sudipta Chakraborty), on the other hand, enjoys the moment, immersing in the song.

The song is quite similar to Baul songs that contain coded lyrics. The words speak of the superficiality of material possessions and gives out a call to explore the world on roads rather than staying confined indoors. It also hints at the precious bonds, involving maddening passion, that often form on the roads. To sum it up, the song talks about an endless journey in which one road leads to another.

Sen is beautifully dramatic in her appearance in the song and creates more anticipation to watch her act in the film.

Uronchondi is slated to be released on 3 August.
