After a span of eight long years, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen together onscreen in Phantom Films's Gulab Jamun. The actress confirmed the participation of her husband in the project in an interview with Mid-Day, a tabloid.
Speaking about the film, Rai Bachchan said, "We had agreed on the idea then. However, it was around the same time that AB [Abhishek Bachchan] decided to take time-out. After the hiatus, he returned with Manmarziyan, which coincidentally is directed by Anurag Kashyap. That's when the chatter around Gulab Jamun began again, and we finally came on board. It is a beautiful script, and we fit the narrative perfectly."
The film is to be helmed by first-time director Sarvesh Mewara, and produced by Phantom Films. The production house, headed by Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, is already working with Bachchan on the upcoming Manmarziyaan (2018).
The couple, who married in 2007, were first paired onscreen in Raj Kanwar's Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke (2000). Since then, they have worked together in Rohan Sippy's Kuch Naa Kaho (2003), JP Dutta's Umraao Jaan (2006), Sanjay Gadhvi's Dhoom 2 (2006), Mani Ratnam's Guru (2007), Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj (2008) and Mani Ratnam's Raavan (2010).
The report also quoted Rai Bachchan saying that the script was 'exciting', and that they had made the decision after a lot of deliberation. "We have got many scripts, and at times, we got tempted too. But then, we discuss it out loud. We take stock and say, 'Does it excite us?' Why should marriage define our choices? Shouldn't we be actually approaching the story as individual actors?" she said.
Rai Bachchan-starrer Fanney Khan is set to be released on 3 August, while Bachchan's Manmarziyaan will hit the screens on 14 September.
