It turns out that actress Priyanka Chopra had a very good reason indeed for quitting Hindi film Bharat (2019), directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The director announced last week that Chopra was leaving the project for a "very, very special" reason and the team was happy for her.

Trade website Thehollywoodreporter.com revealed yesterday (30 July) that Chopra has landed the female lead in the Universal Studios' Cowboy Ninja Viking opposite actor Chris Pratt. The big-budget film is an adaptation of the 2009 Image Comics series of the same name by DC universe writer AJ Lieberman and illustrator Riley Rossmo.

The film will be directed by Michelle MacLaren, who has helmed several notable episodes of the television series Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. She is also directing book adaptation of Kristin Hannah's novel The Nightingale due to be released early next year.

Cowboy Ninja Viking will feature Pratt as Duncan, a trained killer with dissociative identity disorder who is recruited by psychotherapist Dr Sebastian Ghislain into his counter-intelligence unit. Ghislain will turn Duncan into a Triplet, an agent with the skills of a cowboy, ninja and viking.

Collider.com has touted Chopra to play Sara Nix, adding that the actress will be "a psychologist who’s assigned to monitor Duncan, and who may or may not develop feelings for him despite the professional nature of their relationship." Online writeups of the character indicate Nix is Ghislain's assistant and a love interest for Duncan.

AVClub.com reports that Chopra won the role "after a chemistry test with Pratt went extremely well". The screenplay of the film is written by Dan Mazeau, Ryan Engle, Craig Mazin, Paul Wernick and David Reese.

Cowboy Ninja Viking has also landed a coveted summer release date of 28 June 2019 near to the big holiday weekend, Independence Day in the US.

Besides, her role in Cowboy Ninja Viking, Chopra will be seen in the rom-com Isn't It Romantic (2019) with Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth and the Shonali Bose's family film The Sky Is Pink with Farhan Aktar and Zaira Wasim.
