After casting him in the Hindi film Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, director Krish has roped in Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta for his next production too. Titled NTR, the film will be a biopic on the late legendary actor-politician NT Rama Rao. Sengupta will essay the role of veteran actor LV Prasad, winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1982), in the film.
NTR will also star actress Vidya Balan and actors Rana Daggubati and Sachin Khedekar. Vidya will play Basavatarakam Nandamuri, second wife of Rama Rao, while Daggubati will be seen in the character of Chandrababu Naidu, former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Happy birthday Jisshu Sengupta: Of failures and unfinished dreams
Krish reportedly had Sengupta in mind since he began casting for the film. However, Sengupta was worried about the dates as he has recently undergone a gall-bladder surgery and needs complete bed rest. “I just can’t thank Krish enough for juggling the dates to make it possible for me to shoot,” Sengupta told Times of India, a daily.
“It’s a huge honour! As a producer, Prasad’s signature films were about catastrophic romances with theatrical characters backed by some memorable music. As an actor and director, he chose subjects that were emotional, dramatic and driven by performances. No wonder, his films left a mark on the audience. I’ve just begun my theoretical preparations for the film, as Krish has given me a lot of content to browse through,” he added.
Sengupta says he has always wanted to work with filmmakers in the south and feels fortunate to get this offer. The actor will go through intense language training sessions in Hyderabad before he begins the shoot.
