Sanju (2018) seems to have started on a great note. After setting a record opening weekend for a Hindi film where it bagged Rs117.75 crore nett, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer enjoyed another phenomenal day when it posted Rs25.25 crore nett on its first Monday, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. The Sanjay Dutt biopic has so far earned a staggering Rs144.58 crore nett in four days.

The producers' figure for the first Monday is a close Rs25.35 crore nett, while the first four days' total is Rs145.41 crore nett.

Sanju review: Ranbir Kapoor is the soul of this cleverly written narrative

The dubbed Hindi version of SS Rajamouli’s Telugu film Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) had amassed Rs246.47 crore nett in its first week. While that mountain may be difficult to climb, Sanju will look to beat the Rs209 crore nett collected by Salman Khan’s Sultan (2016) in the first week.

Sanju has not set the record for the highest first Monday collections. That belongs to Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 (2013) that had bagged Rs29.64 crore nett. This is followed by Salman's Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) that made Rs26.78 crore nett and Aamir Khan’s Dangal that made Rs25.48 crore nett. It may be noted that both Krrish 3 (2013) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) had the benefit of a public holiday on their first Monday.

Made at an estimated budget of Rs100 crore, Sanju has been released across 4,000 screens in India.

Meanwhile, the film has done well overseas, too, bagging a gross of $7.25 million (approximately Rs49.87 crore nett at the current exchange rate) in its opening weekend. The record belongs to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat (2018) that made $10.59 million (approximately Rs72.85 crore). Salman's Race 3 (2018) had grossed $7.79 million (approximately Rs53.59 crore). Sanju has been released in more than 1,300 screens in the overseas market.
