Box Office: Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 earns just Rs1.25 crore on day one

Tigmanshu Dhulia's Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3, that released on Friday (27 July), had a poor opening, earning just Rs1.25 crore nett on its first day at the box office, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. Made at an estimated budget of Rs30 crore, the film, starring Sanjay Dutt, Jimmy Sheirgill, Chitrangda Singh and Mahie Gill, has released across 1,000 screens in India.

The second film of the franchise, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013), had fared much better with bagging Rs3.22 crore nett on its opening day. That film had released across 1,350 screens in India. The first film, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster (2011), had made managed just Rs92 lakh on its opening day, but it had a limited release with 525 screens.

Jayesh Pradhan's Nawabzaade, that hit the screens on Friday too, barely managed to earn R50 lakhs nett at the box office.

Meanwhile, Shashank Khaitan's Dhadak, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishan Khatter, made a decent Rs2.25-2.50 crore nett on its second Friday at the box office. The film has so far made Rs52.85 crore nett in its domestic business.

Actor Tom Cruise is back with the sixth instalment if the Mission: Impossible franchise. Mission: Impossible – Fallout, released on 27 July, bagged Rs9.50 crore nett on its opening day.

This is the sixth highest opening for a Hollywood film. Misson: Impossible – Fallout crossed the first day earnings of Deadpool 2 (Rs9.48 crore nett) in India. Deadpool 2 had released in 2,000 screens in India, while Misson: Impossible – Fallout was released in 800 plus screens.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) holds the record of being the highest opening Hollywood film after it bagged a stunning Rs31.23 crore nett. Fast & Furious 7 (2015) stands second with Rs12.03 crore nett. The Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015) is third with Rs10.96 crore nett, followed by The Jungle Book (2016) that bagged Rs10.12 crore nett and Fast & Furious 8 (2017) that bagged Rs9.57 crore nett at the Indian box office.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan says this is the highest opening for a Mission: Impossible film in India. "The opening day figures are not bad considering that this franchise is not as big as say an Avengers in India. Hollywood films have done well in the last few years in India. So, Mission Impossible is cashing on to it. I think it the highest opening for a Mission Impossible film in India."

The fifth film in the franchise, Rogue Nation (2015), had earned Rs6.50 crore nett on its opening day.
