Former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi is stable after he was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. His blood pressure had dropped late on Friday (26 July) night. He was taken to the hospital from his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai early on Saturday (27 July) morning. According to the latest reports, the nonagenarian is recovering and stabilized.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader has been suffering from a urinary tract infection for the last week, and was being treated round the clock at home.
The news of his hospitalisation was received with worry by the president of India and the prime minister, who sent out their wishes through Twitter.

Born on 3 June 1924, Karunanidhi emerged as one of the leading voices of the Dravida movement in the early era of India's independence. As screenwriter, he delivered some powerful social films like Parasakthi (1952), Panam (1952) and Rangoon Radha (1956) among others. As a politician, he was the peer of MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.
