Vidya Balan takes to the harmonium for NT Rama Rao biopic

The actress is reportedly undergoing training for a couple of songs in the film, where she plays the late actor-politician's wife, Basavatarakam.

Actress Vidya Balan's performances are never devoid of authenticity and realism. The actress is now undergoing training in music in order to lend credibility to her role as the late NT Rama Rao's wife, Basavatarakam, in an upcoming Telugu biopic on the actor-turned-politician. In a report by Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, Vidya was quoted as learning music from musician Nitin Shankar in order to capture the love of music that Basavatarakam was known for.

The report quoted Shankar as saying that the actress herself is quite adept and has a good instinctive grasp of music. "Her character plays the harmonium in two songs in the film and Vidya wanted to make it look convincing onscreen. I have known her family for a while now as they are all interested in music, so they reached out to me," Shankar said.

This is the second biopic the actress is part of after the immensely successful The Dirty Picture (2011) in which she played Silk Smitha.

The biopic on NT Rama Rao is directed by Krish and will star Nandamuri Balakrishna as the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. The film also stars Rana Daggubatti, Keerthy Suresh and Sumanth in key roles.
