Anil Kapoor sees similarities between Fanney Khan story and his journey

Anil Kapoor will soon be seen in Fanney Khan, which hits the screens on 3 August. The actor plays a cab driver who was once a musician. While Kapoor has never played a cabbie before, he sees similarities between the story of Fanney Khan and his own career.

"Fanney Khan is one character I have resonated with the most so far," Kapoor said in a statement. "Not only do I identify with his struggles, but I also relate to his passion and his relationship with his daughter.

"This character's journey is similar to mine in many ways. I may not have played a taxi driver on screen before, but I have played many characters who have risen from the ground up through sheer will and determination.

"But everything about Fanney Khan, his dream and his drive to overcome every obstacle, is special to me. He doesn't let his circumstances get in the way of his destiny, and that is something we can all learn from. It doesn't matter where we start, as long as we do,” the veteran said.

It may be recalled that Kapoor had played a struggling musician in Woh 7 Din (1983), his first film as leading man.

Years later, Kapoor would plays a musician again, though a successful one, in Subhash Ghai's Taal (1999).

Interestingly, like in Taal, Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan play musician and singer, respectively, in Fanney Khan. The duo were last seen together in Hamara Dil Aake Paas Hai (2000).

Fanney Khan is the official remake of the Belgian film Everybody's Famous (2000). Briefly, the story is as follows: Fanney Khan's daughter Lata is a local singer. She is talented but is often rejected for being overweight. Fanney Khan and friend Ahir (Rajkummar Rao) decide to abduct popular singer Baby Singh (Rai Bachchan) in the hope that they can use the ranson to help Lata make an album.
