Aamir Khan has announced his next project for 2019 and it’s not as an actor. Instead, Khan will co-produce the untitled Gulshan Kumar biopic with T-Series. The film will be written and directed by Subhash Kapoor for a Christmas 2019 release.

On acting front, Khan has a big Diwali release this year in Thugs Of Hindostan.

The biopic will begin filming early next year. Previously, actor Akshay Kumar was slated to star as the music producer and founder of T-Series, Gulshan Kumar, when the project was titled as Moghul. However, the actor backed out of the project earlier this year.

In a previous interview, Gulshan Kumar’s son Bhushan had said that they had been on the lookout for a big ticket actor to replace Akshay. With Aamir Khan Productions on board, it is possible that Khan could step in for a prominent role in the film, possibly the lead.

The actor began his banner, Aamir Khan Productions, in 1999 with Lagaan (2001), which became only the third Indian film to be nominated for the Best Foreign Language film at the Academy Awards. Since then, he has produced films like Taare Zameen Par (2007), Peepli Live (2010), Delhi Belly (2011), Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017).

Khan’s films usually release during the Christmas weekend. However, he has shifted for a Diwali release with last year’s Secret Superstar and this year’s Thugs Of Hindostan.

Writer-director Subhash Kapoor has been with the biopic for a while now. Kapoor made his directorial debut with Say Salaam India (2007) and is known for his legal satires, Jolly LLB (2013) and Jolly LLB 2 (2017).
