Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan will be seen in Akarsh Khurana's Karwaan. The film is to release on 3 August, and marks Salmaan's first tryst with Hindi cinema. The actor is certainly excited about the prospect.

In a quote, the actor said, "It was a delight working with artists from different industries than mine! Since Irrfan Khan and Mithila [Palkar] come from different cinema backgrounds themselves, each one of us had something diverse to offer to the film that is so close to our hearts."

Although this is his first Hindi film, Salmaan is a recognised name in the southern industries. The actor made his debut in the 2011 Malayalam film, Second Show, which won him the Filmfare award for Best Male Debut. Since then, he has been part of several hits like Ustad Hotel (2012), Bangalore Days (2014) and Kammatipadam (2016).

The actor made his Tamil debut with Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014), before going to star opposite Nithya Menon in Mani Rathnam's O Kadhal Kanmani (2015).

Earlier in 2018, the actor had his first big success in Telugu with Mahanati, a biopic based on the life of the late actress Savitri. Salmaan played the role of Gemini Ganesan in the film, and earned critical appreciation for his role. The film also marked his debut in Telugu cinema, and proved a commercial and critical success.

With Karwaan, the actor now aims to break through into the Hindi film industry. Having already worked in 25 films, Salmaan is perhaps the most experienced debut actor this year. Expressing optimism about the film, he said, "With an excellent team on board, Karwaan has really accomplished all the canons we aimed for and more. I cannot wait for the film release!”

The film is set to be released on 3 August.

In addition to Karwaan, the actor has also been signed on for The Zoya Factor, opposite Sonam Kapoor. Based on the bestselling book of the same name, the film is directed by Abhishek Sharma and scheduled to be released on 5 April 2019.
