Actor Emraan Hashmi introduced the first day of shoot of his upcoming feature, Cheat India (2019), with an intriguing but brief video on Twitter. Hashmi is seen playing the board game Scrabble by himself. Against the word ‘India’, he is trying to make the word ‘teach’ but changes the letters to make ‘cheat’ instead.

Produced by T-Series, Ellipsis Entertainment and Emraan Hashmi Films, the film kicks off production with its shoot in Lucknow. The actor had only one release in 2017 – the ensemble heist film Baadshaho. In 2016, his films Azhar and Raaz: Reboot didn’t do well at the box office.

Cheat India will be Hashmi’s second home production. However, his maiden film under the banner Emraan Hashmi Films, Captain Nawab, is yet to be released. He is working with Jannat (2008) director Kunal Deshmukh for his next production. Shridhar Raghavan will be writing the script.

Directed by Soumik Sen, Cheat India is inspired by true events that have taken place in the Indian education system. The drama will look at the pressure Indian students face to excel in their education and how they sometimes resort to crime to get the results they need.

The film, with a Republic Day weekend release in 2019, will go up against the period film Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and the biopic, Super 30, starring Hrithik Roshan, that revolves around a teacher and his goal to train those deserving 30 students from poor backgrounds for IIT-JEE exams.
