In June, Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment had agreed to co-produce Sujoy Ghosh's Badla with Sunir Kheterpal's Azure Entertainment.

The makers have now set the film's release for 8 March 2019. Badla stars Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu.

"And we have a release date! Badla releases in cinemas near you on 8th March 2019," Red Chillies announced on Twitter.

Bachchan and Pannu are reuniting with Badla after Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's acclaimed hit Pink (2016).

Ghosh has earlier directed Bachchan in the fantasy adventure film Aladin (2009) and the thriller Te3n (2016). Both films flopped at the box office.

As of now, Badla has no major competition on its release date. Yash Raj Films' Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar will be released a week earlier.

Badla is said to be a remake of the Spanish film Contratiempo (The Invisible Guest, 2017), which is likely to have Korean and Italian remakes, too. The Spanish film revolved around a young businessman who is accused of murdering his mistress.

Badla has been shot in Scotland, with the entire film being wrapped up in just over a month.
