Filmmaker Hari, who is currently directing Saamy Square, the sequel to one of the biggest blockbusters in Tamil cinema, Saamy (2003), has given away the plot of his upcoming film.
The director, who was present for the film's audio launch, held with great fanfare at the Hilton Chennai Hotel, was visibly anxious and annoyed at actor Ramesh Khanna for giving away details of the film.
Khanna, while speaking to the media at the event, had unwittingly disclosed that Vikram plays Aarusaamy and his son in Saamy Square. Aarusaamy is the name of the lead character in Saamy, that was also played by Vikram. Even as Khanna was completing his sentence, the entire unit on stage tried to silence him, but by then, the damage had already been done.
The director then didn't see any point in keeping more secrets and gave away the plot of the film. "The story of Saamy Square is nothing but the fight that takes place between the families of Perumal Pichai [the antagonists in Saamy] and Aarusaamy [Vikram]."
Moving away from diclosing secrets, Hari praised and thanked the producer of the film, "Shibu Thameens is someone who has risen to become a quality producer from being a successful distributor. He has spent money without hesitation to ensure that we make a quality film."
Calling Thameens a wonderful producer, director Hari further said, "We shot in five states, six airports and bought over 15 vehicles. The expenses were mounting but Shibu Thameens never even showed so much as a grimace while producing the film."
The director also spoke about how the idea of Saamy Square came to him. "When we completed the first part of Saamy, it's end had the lead for a sequel. I told Vikram that I would start the sequel only if I had an appropriate story for it. This is because Vikram is not just a commercial hero but also a good actor. So, it was only when I got a good story did I choose to begin Saamy Square," he said.
The film also stars Keerthy Suresh, Aishwarya Rajesh, Bobby Simha, John Vijay, Prabhu and Soori.
Devi Sri Prasad has scored the music for the film and the cinematography is done by Priyan and A Venkatesh. Saamy Square is set to be released in September this year.
