Actress Trisha Krishnan says her upcoming film, Mohini, is the first horror film in Tamil to have a major portion shot in the United Kingdom.
Talking to reporters, Trisha said, "This is the first time I have done a double role in a film. In Mohini, I play two characters. One is called Vaishnavi and the other is Mohini. The film is the first [Tamil] horror film to have 85% of it shot in the UK."
The actress, who has just returned to India after a holiday in the United States, said she likes horror as it is a 'minimum guarantee genre'. She expressed the hope that audiences would like Mohini as it is a 'complete entertainer'.
At the press conference, the actress was asked about the brutal assault on a 12-year-old child by 22 men in Chennai. Trisha, who strongly condemned the incident, said, "It is hearbreaking. Not just this incident. When we get to learn of any rape or sexual abuse case, it is heartbreaking for all of us, especially when there are children involved. I strongly, strongly condemn it."
Mohini will be released simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil on 27 July on around 600 screens in Telangana/Andhra Pradesh and over 400 in Tamil Nadu.
Directed by Ramana Madhesh, Mohini, a female-centric film, revolves around Trisha's characters. The shooting for the film began a couple of years ago, but the film is only coming to the theatres now.
Explaining the delay, director Madhesh said, "The VFX portions were done in London and this took time. That is one of the reasons why the film's release has been delayed. That apart, we have witnessed two film industry strikes. This and a lot more put together pushed the release to this point."
Madhesh disclosed that the film is based on the concept of epigenesis, the process by which genetic information is modified and translated into the substance and behaviour of an organism, and would try to highlight the social problem of child trafficking.
The film, which has music by Vivek-Mervin, has cinematography by RB Gurudev. It features, among others, Jackky Bhagnani and comedian Yogi Babu in important roles.
