Chinmay Mandlekar to adapt, act in film version of his play Samudra

The popular Marathi play Samudra will soon be adapted into a film. Chinmay Mandlekar, who plays the lead in the play, has taken up the task of directing the movie version. While Mandlekar has directed a number of plays in the past, this will be his film directorial debut. The play is based on Milind Bokil's novel of the same name.

The play was directed and written by Paresh Mokashi, who is known for his Oscar nominated movie Harishchandrachi Factory (2010), and Elizabeth Ekadashi (2014). Shreya Bugde is cast opposite him, while Spruha Joshi had essayed the role in the play. The poster of the film, which was released recently, features the lead pair. The film is produced by Kavita Machchhindra Kambli.

Mandlekar was supposed to make his directorial debut last year. However, he couldn’t go ahead as he got busy with his hit television serial, Tu Maza Sangati.

Samudra is about a husband and wife married for nearly a decade. Their only child studies in a boarding school. The couple go on a holiday to a resort. However, what seems to be a romantic period turns into a disaster when the wife confesses of having an extra-marital affair.

Mandlekar is having a good year as an actor. He has been praised for his work in the recently released Maska, and Farzand in which he plays Shivaji Maharaj. He also received rave reviews for his act as the evil police inspector in the Hindi movie Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018).
