It seemed like only yesterday when filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh began work with his cast and crew for his upcoming film, Badla. Actually, it was 14 June 2018 when they started, but a little over a month later, the film has wrapped its shoot in Scotland.

Ghosh and his leading actress, Taapsee Pannu both shared the news on Twitter. In his usual humorous and self-deprecating manner, the director indicated that he didn’t have much to do in the shoot and wrote, “BADLA shoot ends. had the most awesome awesome crew who did all the hard work and of course.. sir @SrBachchan and @taapsee who took care of the acting dept.. main sirf chance pe dance kiya..”

Pannu shared a brief video of the director on set and called him the youngest member from the assembled cast and crew. “Considering we have a 2-year-old acting in the film it’s quite an achievement,” she added.

The actress plays an entrepreneur in the film and has said revealed that she based her character’s look on Olivia Pope, the Washington DC fixer played by Kerry Washington in the Emmy-nominated show Scandal.

“It’s a character I have never done before so wanted to have an interesting look put together. She is a sharp and intimidating woman who dresses up in an extremely prim and proper way. Kerry Washington’s look was a perfect reference point for us and if I can achieve something even close to hers, I think we will be good,” she said.

Badla is an official remake of the Spanish film Contratiempo (2017). Pannu also told the daily tabloid, Mumbai Mirror, that even though the film is a remake, the Indian version will be drastically altered.

“Sujoy didn’t want to do a copy–paste job. My memories of the original are hazy now and I deliberately didn’t refresh them because I wanted to approach the film with a fresh perspective,” she added saying her character was not the conventional Ghosh heroine.

Meanwhile, her co-star Amitabh Bachchan, who worked with her on the National Award-winning film Pink (2016), already wrapped up his Scotland portions of the film earlier on 30 June.

Ghosh was feeling quite upset about the end of the film when Pannu tried to cheer him up.
