There was a lot of pre-release buzz for director Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak for a couple of reasons. The film is the official remake of the iconic Marathi movie Sairat (2016) and it is the launch for the late actress Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor, who is starring opposite Ishaan Khatter.
The buzz was converted into good numbers on the first day. As per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com, Dhadak opened yesterday at Rs8.50 crore, a good opening collection for a film starring newcomers in lead roles. This is Khatter's second film after Iranian director Majid Majidi's Beyond The Clouds (2018).

As per Boxofficeindia.com, Dhadak has managed to score well even in the non-metros of India since the subject has an appeal in the Hindi heartlands.
As per trade sources, the film is made at a cost of Rs30 crore. The number it has achieved on the first day is encouraging for the budget. The film will need a good jump on Saturday and Sunday for it to have a good chance of becoming a success story.
