For the third instalment of the Yamla Pagla Deewana series, the makers are pulling out all the stops. Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se brings together actor Dharmendra and his sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol once again. But that's not all, the film also boasts of cameo appearances from Salman Khan, Rekha, Shatrughan Sinha and his daughter Sonakshi.
Shatrughan and actress Sonakshi were due to act in the film, the first time that the father-daughter pair would be onscreen together, for a song sequence. However, the veteran actor confirmed that besides the song cameo, he will be doing a short role as a judge in the upcoming film. Dharmendra will be playing a lawyer in the film.
“The role came at short notice, but I couldn’t say no. We have worked together in several films, this is a friendly appearance that I’m doing. I begin shooting in early August,” Shatrughan told Mumbai Mirror, a daily tabloid.
The two actors have worked together on a number of films like Blackmail (1973), Dost (1974), Jeene Nahi Doonga (1984), Aag Hi Aag (1987), and Taaqat (1995). It is likely that the former co-stars will have a memorable clash onscreen as lawyer and judge.
The actor-turned-politician revealed he was keen to appear with his daughter on screen. He said, “It is the first time that she and I will be seen together, even if it is just a few minutes as part of a song. So, this film is special for many reasons and I’m looking forward to be on set.”
The title song sequence, choreographed by Remo D’Souza, also features Rekha and Salman Khan has already been filmed this March. Reportedly, the song will use the popular songs ‘O Mere Sona Re Sona Re’ from Teesri Manzil (1966) and ‘Rafta Rafta’ from Kahani Kismat Ki (1973). The latter was a famous song picturised on Dharmendra and Rekha.
Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, directed by Punjabi filmmaker Navniat Singh in his Hindi film debut, also stars actress Kriti Kharbanda opposite Bobby Deol. The film is due to be released on 31 August.
