Early this year, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker had announced the epic drama Panipat, that will be based on the third battle of Panipat fought between the Marathas and king of Afghan, Ahmad Shah Abdali.

Gowariker roped in artistes Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay  Dutt for the project. While the film is expected to go on floors in December, Gowariker has already begun work on the film’s music. In a maiden collaboration, the filmmaker has signed brothers Ajay and Atul Gogavale to compose the music for Panipat.

Gowariker made the announcement on Twitter.  “Food, Conversations and Music are in the air. Creation of the Songs has begun for #Panipat with the AMAZING Ajay & Atul,” he wrote.

Ajay-Atul have scored music for films likes Agneepath (2012), Brothers (2014),  the Marathi blockbuster Sairat (2016) and its Hindi remake Dhadak (2018). The brothers are also set to score music for upcoming films like Thugs of Hindostan (2018), Zero (2018) and Super 30 (2018).

Gowariker has mostly worked with famed composer AR Rahman. In fact, the music of four of his last six films were scored by Rahman.

As a director, Gowariker has struggled since Jodhaa Akbar (2008). His last three films – What’s Your Raashee? (2009), Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010) and Mohenjo Daro (2016) — failed at the box office. As an actor, he was last seen in Marathi film Ventilator (2016). The film, produced by actress Priyanka Chopra, won the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy award for Best Film, and the National award for Best Director, Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

Panipat is slated to be released in 2019.
