Soorma (2018), the biopic on former India hockey player Sandeep Singh, registered a low collection at the box office in its first week in India. The film, directed by Shaad Ali, has earned only Rs20.40 crore in this period, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.

Starring Diljit Dosanjh as Singh, the film had a low first weekend where it made Rs13.25 crore. The film had little chance of earning well in the weekdays.

The film’s collections have been steady from Monday onwards. However, as the numbers aren’t good or decent, it doesn’t mean much.

As per trade sources, Soorma is made at an estimated budget of Rs25 crore. Right now, the film has some distance to cover its cost of production. Its only chance is to manage good numbers in the second weekend and hang in in the theatres for as long as possible.

The Hollywood movie Ant-Man And The Wasp, which was also released alongside Soorma, did better business by earning Rs27.10 crore in its first week.

Meanwhile, Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju (2018) had a very good third week as well in which it collected Rs28.95 crore in the period. The grand total of the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer stands at a mammoth Rs318.78 crore.

Hence, Sanju becomes the fourth highest grossing Hindi film ever after Dangal (Rs374.53 crore), Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs339 crore) and Hirani’s PK (Rs337.72 crore).
