There was plenty of speculation surrounding the characters of Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Karishma Tanna in the Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju, which was released three weeks ago.
As it turned out, Kapoor played Dutt's Parsi girlfriend, not his wife, while TV star Tanna had a small part as a young Gujarati woman whom Dutt's friend Kamli (Vicky Kaushal) woos but who ends up having a one-night stand with Dutt (Ranbir Kapoor).
Now the makers of Sanju have released a song that was dropped from the film's final cut. Titled 'Bhopu Baj Raha Hai', this is a fun number purely for the masses. The lyrics by Shekhar Astitva and Rohan Gokhale are shabby. What works for the song, however, is the rollicking score, in particularly the brass tune by Kishore Sodha.
The horn is a common musical instrument we hear at marriages and on other celebratory occasions. And the music composer duo of Rohan Pradhan and Rohan Gokhale have made a song of it.
A horn blares loudly and if it is disturbing you, chuck this song. However, Rohan-Rohan deserve credit for creating a rollicking score. Nakash Aziz’s voice quality is not very fine but he makes up for it with his energetic and seemingly effortless performance.
The music video, however, rides solely on the electrifying freestyle dance of Ranbir Kapoor. We have known about his prowess as an actor for a while now, but Kapoor’s dancing skills have been underrated. For such a track, it is important that the dancers enjoy it, and Kapoor certainly seems to be having fun pulling off those vibrant moves. Despite his excitement, however, he still does not leave the body of Sanjay Dutt and some steps towards the fag end of the song remind you of the latter's dancing style.
Vicky Kaushal is not really known for his dancing and he is clearly struggling to keep pace with Ranbir Kapoor in this song, but that is not to say he is disappointing. Karishma Tanna must simply be happy to be part of such a superhit film. Her dance moves are not convincing, but all through the song her character Pinky has a goofy smile on her face.
'Bhopu Baj Raha Hai' may not appeal to the classes, but this one is purely for the masses. Watch the song:
