A few days ago, the makers of Batti Gul Meter Chalu had announced that the film will hit the screens on 14 September. However, today they anounced that the release has been postponed to 21 September.

“Batti Gul Meter Chalu releases on 21st September,” actor Shahid Kapoor tweeted.

The change comes as Kajol's Helicopter Eela will be released on 14 September and Rohit Jugraj's Arjun Patiala is set to hit the screens on 13 September. If released on 14 September, Batti Gul Meter Chalu would have had to compete with both these films at the box office.

However, even after being postponed, Batti Gul Meter Chalu won’t enjoy a solo release. Rajkummar Rao’s long due feature 5 Weddings, an India-US-Canada co-production, will hit the screens on 21 September too.

Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, Batti Gul Meter Chalu was initially scheduled to be to released on 31 August. However, the shoot of the film had to be halted after a tiff between its producers, T-Series and KriArj Entertainment, emerged. The shoot commenced only after T-Series took up the entire production. Apart from Shahid Kapoor, the film also stars actresses Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam.
