Hichki to be released in Russia on 6 September, a day after Teachers' Day

Hindi films and Russia go back a long way to the 1950s when Raj Kapoor's films were screened to sold-out audiences. Nearly seven decades later, Hindi films haven't lost its charm for Russian viewers. The latest Hindi film to be released in the country is Siddharth P Malhotra's Hichki starring Rani Mukerji. The film will hit the Russian screens on 6 September 2018, one day after India celebrates Teachers' Day.

The heart-warming film is based on the real-life struggles of American teacher Brad Cohen and his aim to create some meaning through education in the lives of his students. The film, through Mukerji's character Naina Mathur, shows teacher with Tourette Syndrome deals with her profession and life. It's a subject that translated well from USA to India and will likely do the same in Russia.

The film's producer, Maneesh Sharma, talked about their intentions of releasing it internationally. "We expect audiences to feel the same emotions that people across the world are feeling after seeing the movie. The relevancy of the subject and the film’s intention to affect a positive social change is appealing universally and thus breaking language barriers across the globe,” Sharma said.

Director Malhotra, in a statement, spoke about his excitement on his film's release in Russia, “Hichki is a universal film and the response that it is getting in the overseas territories is validating that the film’s subject is an extremely relevant one. It’s really heartening  that Hichki will now release in Russia.

"Hichki professes the message of the fact of making your worst obstacle within you and convert it into your biggest strength by embracing it and working each day to win over it. Hichki has a beautiful message that nothing is impossible and life can be beautiful even with our inherent complications. I’m really excited to see the reaction of audiences on Russia.”

Hichki will be screened across 70 screens in the country and is renamed Ya Prepod which translates to 'I am a teacher'. In Russia, Teachers' Day falls every year on 5 October.
