Bidaay Byomkesh song 'Shondhye Namar Aagey': Ishan Mitra turns ordinary composition soulful

'Shondhye Namar Aagey' song from Debaloy Bhattacharya’s Bidaay Byomkesh is a mellow number and a soulful rendition by Ishan Mitra. The song has been penned and composed by Saqi Banerjee.

'Shondhye Namar Aagey' brings forth the underlying tension and despair that pervades the Bakshi family as Byomkesh’s (Abir Chatterjee) son Abhimanyu goes missing for years and then gets accused of a murder. The song portrays the aged Bakshi’s inner turmoil as a celebrated detective who has now been handed with the responsibility to look into the case of his own son.

The song elaborately sketches his mindscape as it shows him to be immersed in deep thoughts and wandering alone in the streets, while his late wife Satyabati (Sohini Sarkar) appears in his imaginations. The complex position of Abhimanyu (Joy Sengupta) and his equation with his wife Anusuya (Bidipta Chakraborty) is also depicted poetically. It adds to the melancholic mood of the songs.

Byomkesh’s grandson Satyaki, also played by Chatterjee, is seen to be equally disturbed and involved in the entire matter. He embarks on his own investigation, has nervous chats with his father and also breaks down before his girlfriend Tunna (Sohini Sarkar) when he fails get a grasp of the case.

The tune of the song reminds a lot of Rabindranath Tagore’s compositions. The lyrics, though archaic, pronounce the gloomy mood of the song to the fullest with romantic imageries. The words paint the yearning for a close relation.

Mitra’s singing and Kuntal De’s arrangement elevate the apparently common composition by Banerjee and make it soothing to the years.

Bidaay Byomkesh, an original story on the iconic Bengali sleuth for the first time, has been generating a lot of anticipation among film goers. The film is slated to hit the theatre screens on 20 July.
