Director Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju (2018) entered the rare Rs300-crore club this weekend. The Sanjay Dutt biopic, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, has earned Rs309.83 crore in India so far, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.

After a drop in numbers in the weekdays, the film, which also stars Vicky Kaushal and Paresh Rawal, once again picked up on the weekend, earning Rs7.25 crore and Rs8.50 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Sanju’s total in the third week so far stands at Rs20 crore, which is quite impressive.

Interestingly, this makes Kapoor the only actor of his generation to enter the coveted 'Rs300-crore club'. After Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, Kapoor has become the first actor to achieve this feat. Even Shah Rukh Khan has never had a Rs300-crore film.

With this film, Hirani has achieved the feat of tasting success in all the five films he has directed so far — Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003), Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), 3 Idiots (2009), PK (2014) and Sanju (2018).

The filmmaker’s highest grosser so far has been PK, which did a lifetime business of Rs337.72 crore. It will be interesting to see if Sanju manages to cross that figure.

Dhadak, the remake of the Marathi blockbuster Sairat (2016) will be released this Friday and the film is expected to put a break on Sanju’s scoring. Dhadak features Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.
