After a peppy number in 'Mohabbat', the makers of Fanney Khan (2018) have released the 'Halka Halka' song. As the team started promoting the title a day in advance, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan fans would have hoped that this is not a remake of the qawwali 'Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai'. Lyricist Irshad Kamil has used the key line, but it would be wrong to label the Fanney Khan track as a remake.
The makers have not credited the original lyricist Sufi poet Anwar Farrukhabadi and it was later crooned by Khan as a qawwali. Save for ‘Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai’, Kamil hasn’t used any other text from the original, but manages to create neat, simple and fresh lyrics of his own.
Amit Trivedi has given a soothing pop score for the Fanney Khan track. 'Halka Halka' comes across as an endearing peppy song.
The real highlight of the song is the singing of Sunidhi Chauhan. Despite the peppy, fast paced tunes, Chauhan sings in a smooth, effortless manner. Divya Kumar has a unique voice and it seems to compliment the soothing tone of Chauhan.
Finally, it's the visuals that make it more appealing.
Rajkummar Rao shares screen space with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In the film, Adhir (Rajkummar) and Fanney Khan (Anil Kapoor) kidnap pop star Baby Singh (Rai Bachchan). Adhir and Fanney Khan are committing a crime for the first time, and so they try to make Baby’s stay as comfortable as possible.
Adhir is seen developing a bond with Baby Singh. Now this song reflects Adhir’s affection towards Baby. Rajkummar has the look of an ardent fan who cannot believe his eyes that a world beauty like Rai Bachchan is in front of him. He’s blushing constantly in the song. He takes a selfie with Baby Singh who has her eyes in a blindfold. Baby Singh quickly realises that Adhir is a harmless guy.
Rajkummar and Rai Bachchan look good on screen. There is no need for great choreography as the song largely rides on the goofy antics and infectious energy of the two.
Fanney Khan will be released on 3 August.
