Veteran actress and social activist Shabana Azmi has never shied from expression her views even in the face of criticism. Azmi was left fuming after she came across a post that attributed false quotes to her name.

In the post, Azmi was quoted as saying that India is not a great nation since Muslims are not happy in India. Attributing the quote to Azmi, the publisher asked Azmi to go to Syria and Pakistan to find happiness. The post carries an image and the publishers is named as one Santosh Bhartiya.

Disturbed by the false post, Azmi dared the publisher to prove that she ever said such a thing.

“THIS IS PURE LIES being circulated in my name. Santosh Bhartiya agar aapki sahi identity hai tto prove kariye ye maine kahah kaha hai. Jhoot ki buniyaad par apni dukaan chalaane wale sharm karo,” tweeted Azmi.

While this post appears to be the work of a troll, in 2008 Azmi had courted news after she told noted TV journalist Karan Thapar that she couldn’t get a house in Bombay (now Mumbai) because she is a Muslim.

Thapar had asked Azmi whether Muslims were in fact victims of discrimination despite India's proud claim of being a secular. The actress had replied saying, "Karan, I can't buy a house in Bombay, a flat in Bombay and it wasn't given to me because I am a Muslim. I read the same thing about Saif. If Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi cannot get a flat in Bombay because they are Muslims, what are we talking about?"
